A bit bulky but a good iron, June 11, 2005

I don't straighten my hair anymore, but when I did, this was a pretty good tool. The removable comb and boar bristle attachments were the best features; the comb kept my hair from slipping from between the plates, and the boar bristle attachment was great for finishing the job, smoothing down frizzies and my hair in general. The ceramic plates heated very well and got my hair about as straight as it can get. My hair's very thick, long, and wavy, however, so it took about an hour and a half and several strokes to get it all flat and straight. The bulkiness of the iron made it a little unwieldy and hard to get close to my scalp, and it got tangled up more often than I'd like. Having to run the plates over a given lock of hair 3 or 4 times was a bit of a drag... and it damaged my hair more than a more efficient and lighter/slimmer iron would. My ideal iron would be lighter and less clunky, but with similar attachments and plates as this one. But Conair can't help that I have a hip-length mass of thick waves/curls... so it's probably a good iron for someone with short enough hair that time concerns and tool weight aren't that big of an issue.
