good stuff, April 2, 2007 |
Reviewer: vicsav (nj) I have been using the phyto relaxer for about 1 1/2 years. At first, I used the index 2 product, but it made my hair too stiff and straight. I have now switched to the index 1. My hair is VERY dry, and I have figured out that I must use moisturizing treatments and olive oil twice a week in order to achieve a luxurious and shiny result. I use no heat, no rollers to get wavy, manageable hair. I can't wait to grow out the "mistakes" on my ends! Smoothing a really important, so spend time paying attention to that. I haven't been to a salon for maybe 2-3 years. I get more compliments now than before.

Reviewer: jen (fl) Don't be scared to DIY. This product is amazing! NO FRIZZ. I love it. I got better results then when I went to salons and paid hundreds. I'm a fan for life. My hair is amazing now.

Best Relaxer ever, September 8, 2006 |
Reviewer: Ashley (seattle) I have been getting my hair relaxed since I was 12 years old. Every relaxer I have tried before Phyto has caused extreme damage to my hair and scalp with out many results in relaxing my extremely thick and kinky hair. The first time I tried the Phyto relaxer I had immediate results. My hair was no longer frizzy, kinky, or unmanagable. My hair feels soft and healthy and the breakage has stopped as well. I am able to wear my hair natural without putting a ton of product in it before hand and it looks great!
The only downside I've seen to this product is that it begins to wear off after a month or two. The frizz and kinkiness begins to come back slowly, but by the time it becomes unmanagable again, it's usually time for a touch-up anyways.
I recommend this product to anyone who has extremely kinky, frizzy or unruly hair. This product will work for you!

Very Nice!!:)), April 14, 2006 |
Reviewer: Lee (AZ) I just relaxed my hair with this. I have to say that there was less breakage. I especially liked the milk reconstructor that came with it. It was definitely gentle on my hair and scalp. No burning even though I did scratch. My hair came out pretty straight and then dried with a slight wave. I bought some more products in the line that I am eager to try! I just ordered the phytomist. I had gotten my products from the UK because they have a larger variety but I think that I will not hesitated to order from Hairtopia because I want my products to arrive sooner than a week and a half now after trying some the products.

Phyto Index 1 relaxer..., March 20, 2006 |
Reviewer: paralelldreamer (Vero Beach,FL) After reading several rave reviews on this product, by women who seemed to have a similar hair-type as myself, I decided to try it. I have fine-normal somewhat wavy hair, and I wanted to relax it in order to achieve the stick-straight hair I desired without paying $700 for thermal reconditioning. The product application was fairly simple, although I had relaxed my hair before. The smell was a bit harsh at first (although the product description reads 'odorless'), but not as bad as others. After following all instructions and washing everything out, my hair appeared to be pretty straight, but it was still wet so hard to tell. When dry, it was straight but not the result I expected from the reviews. As a few days passed it started to become wavy again..but my hair was SO shiny! Although I was not impressed at ALL with the actual relaxer, it seemed like I had just gotten a conditioning treatment or something, my hair was super shiny. The only damage the product did to my hair was fray my ends. Anyway, if you want the results I was hoping for by using this product, I don't think it's worth the $60+ the application process just to be disapointed.

Delivers on its promise, August 6, 2005 |
Reviewer: jolie (Florida) I was browsing one day and saw the PhytoSpecific line in a store. Until recently, I didn't know that Phyto had a line for relaxed hair. I researched it online and found this website. I bought the product based on the reviews. I was not disappointed.
My hair story goes like this. I have an abundance of fine hair. If I can recall, it's the 3a/b type. I've had very bad experiences at hair salons in the past so I have been doing it myself for at about 10 years now. I've found that the kids formulas have been effective so I decided to go with Index 1. It straigthened my hair without that usual dead straight look I used to get after I relaxed my hair. My hair had volume and bounce to it. Plus it stayed that way. Unlike previous products that "wear out" by week 2.
I've used this product 3 times and here are my suggestions. 1) If someone can apply it for you, have them do it. The product is very creamy/thick and you might miss spots in the back. 2) Wait @least 4 days between your last shampoo and application. The more your scalp can build up the natural oils the better. I haven't had any burn when I waited past 4 days. 3) smoothing the product at the end is vital!
Even in high humidity, the phyto relaxed hair doesn't frizz and feels smoother than the non-phyto relaxed hair. I recently cut the ends and I noticed that the frizz situation has improved. It'll probably take about 1 year for me to grow out all of the non-phyto hair. I'll post again if there's a difference in the frizz factor once the hair is fully grown out.

Best product ever!!, July 18, 2005 |
Reviewer: Emma (Montreal) Wow - i don't know where to begin. I have relatively thin, wavy hair. I have had it chemically straightened twice at a salon with not-great results. Each time, i still have to battle the blowdryer daily and then follow with the iron. What a waste of time when there's so many more things to be doing out there! I had seen the amazing reviews on here for months but i couldn't work up the courage to order it. Finally i did and omg i'm sooooo extatic. The application process took about 25 minutes - i had a friend help me and i highly recommend it because you won't be able to see what's going on in the back, or if you've missed some spots. I did burn my skin a little bit - the red is gone now after 5 hours, but make sure you apply the balm properly. I came out of the shower and did something i haven't done in 5 years...i let my hair air dry. Half an hour later, my hair looked like it does when i blowdry and iron it...but without the effort. It was stick straight - it looked like it was thermally reconditioned. I am astounded because never in my life have i had hair like this. The product itself didn't smell too bad, but it was very thick and a bit hard to apply - but who cares. It took me about 7 shampoos to get the stuff out, and alot of hair fell out in the shower so i started to get worried. Part of that, however, coulda been due to the fact that I hadn't washed my hair in 3 days as stipulated in the instructions. My hair right now is a bit dry - i am excited to wash it tomorrow with the samples of phytojoba that came with the order! I hear that after a few washes is goes soft and healthy again. I recommend this for absolutely anyone who wants hassle-free hair. I wish i had the courage to order this years ago - i woulda had an extra 365 hours per year to enjoy doing other things instead of blowdrying my hair. Don't hesistate - best product ever and way better than harsh salon treatments. Thanks hairboutique!!!

Better then expected, June 8, 2005 |
Reviewer: Rada (California) This is the first time I ever relaxed my hair so I was very skeptical I was hoping it wouldn't make myhair fall out. I have been coloring my hair so it is dry and damaged as well.My hair is really fine so it does not react well to blowdrying or heat straightening in general. After the Phyto Relaxer my hair is really straight when it's wet but as it dries it turns wavy and frizzes more then I would like but overall this relaxer did make my hair softer and straighter. It has also reduced the overall "volume" of my hair making it more manageable.
I'm happy with this product and will use it again if I decide to keep straightening my hair.

Not quite what I expected, July 26, 2004 |
Reviewer: anise (austin, texas) First, some background.
I have very curly hair--like, Keri Russel curly. But I wanted to cut my hair very short without looking like I had an afro. After reading all the raves about this product I decided to use this. About one week prior to using the relaxer I cut my very long hair very very short. At that point, my hair was in excellent condition.
I followed the directions on the package. The one thing I'd have done differently is I would have had someone else do the application. It was quite a challenge to do myself, and this may have contributed to the results I got.
After I washed the relaxer out of my hair, I noticed there was still a curl. It was definitely less curly than before--way less curly--but after drying, I can't even say my hair was wavy. It was curly by any definition.
so, I had anticipated a loose wave and what I ended up with was a looser curl. However, my hair no longer gets frizzy. At all. And I live in the heart of Texas, so that's saying a lot. I can go out in the rain and my hair looks the same as it does in the house. That's impressive. For the de-frizz factor alone I recommend this product.
After using the product, my hair did feel slightly processed, but that's to be expected. As I said, my hair was in excellent condition, so after about two days I could no longer tell it had been processed. I imagine the "healing time" would be considerably different if the hair isn't in very good condition. Currently, may hair feels wonderful and it looks very nice. I relaxed my hair about three weeks ago.
Over all, I am pleased with the product. In the future, if I decide I want to go curl-free I will use #2. #1 lessened the curl, got rid of the frizz, and helped my hair lay flatter against my head, which is what I wanted with the hair cut I received.
I would give this product a 5 in de frizzing, but a 3 with regard to what I *expected* it to do in terms of decurling. But don't let the 3 fool you. I am pleased with the results. It just wasn't what I anticipated.

The best relaxer known to mankind, July 23, 2004 |
Reviewer: M. N-Hackett (Long Island, NY) This relaxer is the best relaxer I have ever used in my entire life. It delivers everything they said it would. My hairdresser told me about it back in January, but I couldn't believe the price!! One day I found it for $20.00 less at a pharmacy, I bought a kit that I applied myself. Really, I coud not believe how much softer, shinier, fuller my hair has become.
To the makers of Phyto-> YOU GUYS ROCK. I only use 2 types of products on my hair now: PHYTO AND FURTERER.
WOOHOO!!!!!!

Delivers on All Promises!! FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!, January 6, 2004 |
Reviewer: Leslie (New York) Though my hair tends to be fine, it is extremely stubborn. It has always resisted efforts to straighten it, and combined with the hair loss I suffered from salon straightening, I stopped straightening my hair for years and resigned myself to looking like a bowling ball--particularly in the summer when the humidity not only curled and frizzed my hair, but made it shrink up to my ears even if it was shoulder-length. I decided to give this product a try because it seemed safe and I hoped that at least I would not suffer breakage. I wasn't very optimistic about the results--if it didn't come straight in the salon, why would a mild DIY home product work?! But I hoped to at least get the kinkier areas to soften a bit, so I spot-applied to my hairline and the bottom where I was losing all the length. Boy was I wrong!! I couldn't believe how great it worked! Had I followed their directions to the letter I would have had a perfect head of hair. Next time I will apply it all over AND I will NOT comb any of it through (I couldn't resist the temptation on the very bottom), but rather I will smooth it with the back of the comb as they directed. It's been 5 months and it's still SHINY, STRAIGHT, and MANAGEABLE! This is the BEST product I've ever used! For great results, FOLLOW THEIR DIRECTIONS!!

good product, September 9, 2003 |
Reviewer: sgrander@lib.siu.edu (southern Illinois) After reading reviews on this product I decided it was right for my daughters hair. She is bi-racial and has soft curly hair. She likes to straighten it with a chi iron, but that takes so much time, I wanted to try something more permanent. This product was good, but it didn't work as I expected. Mostly because she has long shoulder length hair and it is very thick, so it took 20 minutes just to get it on her hair, the instructions said not to leave it on any longer than 20 minutes, so what do I do? I left it on for about 10 more minutes, then rinsed because I was afraid to leave it on any longer. It did not get straight, it loosened the curl, but is definitely still curly. Next time I plan to use the stronger formula and leave it on longer, it did not damage her hair and did leave it feeling strong and soft. I will also get someone to help me and we will both apply on each side of her head, to get it on faster. I think we will get a better result doing it like that.
So my advise to anyone who has very thick or long hair, get two people to apply and make sure and leave it on as long as it is safe for maximum results.

Phytorelaxer Index 1, May 28, 2003 |
Reviewer: Jackie (Dallas, Texas) My hairstylist completed my relaxer using the phytorelaxer index 1. I think we both were curios about the outcome and a little nervous. My hairstylist was impressed with the history and hydrating ingrediants in the relaxer. My hair looks really nice. It is straight but has body. There was no burning and no unpleasant smells. I found the relaxer at Neiman Marcus and I;m really disappointed that other local stores don't carry it. I would encourage others to give it a try.

Phytospecific Phytorelaxer Index 1, February 5, 2003 |
Reviewer: K. (College Station) After reading rave reviews, I ordered Phytospecific Phytorelaxer Index 1 to try on my naturally curly hair. I followed all directions as far as not shampooing for 3 days, and no curling/straightening iron for 8 days. I tested it on a small portion of my hair ( no easy task) and dove in. The application was challenging, but not impossible. If I were to do it again, I would have my stylist do it. I also made the mistake of not covering my neck with a cape (the directions suggested this) and ended up with some irritation/burns from the cream. My bad.
The results were absolutely wonderful, though! It's very humid for the majority of the year here, and I haven't frizzed at all. Drying my hair straight is SO much easier now. I am still a bit wavy when I air dry. This didn't dry or break off my hair like other straighteners have in the past. I am very very pleased and would recommend it and use it again.

Phytorelaxer, September 12, 2002 |
Reviewer: Erica (Berkeley, CA) I was a little leary about using this relaxer because my hair is only slightly wavy and a little dry. I can get my hair smooth and straight with a blow dryer and straightening iron but humidity ruins all my hard work. Any moisture in the air tends to make my hair pouffy-- which I dislike. Phytorelaxer really did exactly what I hoped it would. My hair was perfectly straight and smooth after a quick blow dry with a paddle brush. I didn't even think about using my sraightening iron. It doesn't puff up and get wavy in the moist night air anymore either. My hair did feel a little dry on the ends for the first few days-- but nothing that a good moisture treatment won't fix.
