As I have aged my hair has not been able to take all of the harsh chemicals associated with relaxing and hair coloring. I noticed my hair was shedding a lot and had lost its luster. My daughter would feel my hair sometimes and say mom your hair is so dry. Even though most people would look at my hair and say it is so long and thick, I knew that it was dead hair on my head. Anyway, after reading every single review, I decided to try the Phyto relaxer. I could not find anyone to relax my hair for me, so I relaxed my hair myself. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. My hair feels softer, not dry like it was before. It may be too soon for me to know just how long the results will last. However, I would recommend the relaxer as the best in home relaxer I have ever used.

I am not sure if I really had it because my hair is not strong, but my balding stopped even after horrible scalp injections I had to endure. I truly recommend this product. I was afraid to use anything on my hair and because I did not know what was breaking my hair off I was afraid to use braids, weaves or anything. I read an article on V. Williams in Essence who stated she uses this product so I decided to go on the site. After reading the reviews I tried the #2 instead of the #1. It frighten me at first because it made my thinning hair bone straight. But sure enough my hair began to grow even the edges. I still see a dermatologist, but I am also continuing using the product; discoutinued injections. I wish that they offered a discount after you purchase a certain amount, but truly a must and I feel safe using it.

I was so worried I was shedding severely before I relxaxed, after, Oh and of course when I was due for relaxer that was the worst shedding. I was going to see a Doctor. I made it up in my mind that the relaxers had to go. I was so not ready to go natural after all my hair had grown brastrap length but was becoming incredibly thin. Today I am purchasing this product for the 2nd time and I could not resist to write a review I so owe it to the makers of the product to say I am NEVER EVER BUYING ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM ANY ONE ELSE!!!!!! I am sold I am a customer for life! I have stopped shedding after the first application of the relaxer. So I had to save for this next shipment and the true test is how long can I go before my next touch up before I start shedding. The last relaxer was in December and it is now May I can't believe it, no uncontrollable itching, shedding DAMN this is some good stuff. Only problem too expensive I won't be able to buy it as often but it will be the only relaxer I will ever buy.

All of the comments I read were very favorable. Upon receiving it, (thank you, Hair Boutique!) I took my product kit to my stylist for application. I am an African American female with coarse, unprocessed hair that I have been getting pressed at the hair salon for the past 4 and a half years. I was very skeptical about the straightening power of this "non-chemical" relaxer, and went to the salon wondering if this would actually work on my virgin hair that hasn't seen a relaxer in almost five years. Let me tell you, not only was I pleasantly surprised at the results, but my hair stylist was too! The initial mixing of the botanical straightening creme (egg and soya) and the application to my hair took about 25 minutes. The application was focused on the roots first, and the last eight minutes were spent smoothing out the ends. The odor was very light, and washed out nicely with the neutraling shampoo included in the kit. My stylist did not even have to use the entire bottle of neutralizing shampoo. The milky reconstructor made my hair feel like silk! I sat under a warm dryer for about 30 minutes, to dry out the rollerset. I did feel the straightening creme tingle the scalp just a bit in the front of my hairline, but overall, the straightening process was painless, and odorless. That alone, makes it all worthwhile! When the rollers came out, the curls were crisp and shiny, just as if I had gotten a press and curl, but without the heat. The end results were fabulous!!!! I am so happy that I finally got enough nerve to actually try this product. This is one of the best kept secrets on the market for black women who want to use a non-chemical plant-based creme relaxer in their hair to achieve straightness. I highly reccommend it!!! You will not be disappointed!!

I still went ahead and got it anyway, wondering how different this perm can be from the other perm I've use? I hope this work i said to myself on the way to the hairdesser.My goodness!!I must say it is awesome my hair look shiny , bouncy, and really striaght. I will never go back to using those other perm. You know what? Just try it, you have nothing to lose, yes it is 60 bucks, but don't take our word go ahead try it ,you and everyboby else will see the different in just one application, I did!!!

Reviewer: dana (california)My 12 year old daughter had long, extremely thick, frizzy curly hair that was next to impossible to get a comb through even when wet. I contacted a local salon that used phyto products and they recommended the phyo relaxer no. 1 for her hair, and I ended up paying nearly three hundred dollars for them to do it there in the salon. It did relax her curls somewhat, and her hair was much easier to comb through when it was wet and conditioned, however it was still very curly when dry and still difficult to flat iron without ending up puffy. After about 3 months, I decided to order the phyto 2 relaxer and try doing it myself at home. I did half her hair at a time as it takes a long time to apply the product because she has so much hair. I know the instructions said not to apply over previously relaxed hair, but I did a test section on her hair and it seemed fine so I proceeded with her whole head. Other than that I followed the instructions carefully, and this resulted in her hair going from very curly to soft waves, and reduced the volume (puffiness) of her hair a great deal. It is now effortless to comb through her wet hair, and flat ironing brings much better results. I had some product left over, and my 17 year old son who has short but also curly hair asked me to try it on his hair. He is very happy with the results also, and wants me to buy more to touch up his re-growth. I have never tried any other relaxer products so can't compare, but will definitely be ordering this again. (Helpful hint: purchase a home shampoo tray so you can have the person lean back to the sink to rinse out the product - I found one online for less than $15.00)

Reviewer: Lenita (Dallas TX)I have thick, coarse horsehair like hair and I'll admit I was a tad skeptical. Well it totally blew me away and exceeded all my expectations. I'd never had a relaxer actually leave my hair HEALTHY before. And no matter how much humidity or how often I washed it, my hair remained STRAIGHT with this relaxer. All other relaxers just withered and died after washing a few times and never returned to their initial straightness. Not the Phytorelaxer! My hair is softer and has more "swing" than it's ever had. Didn't think that was possible with "horsehair"! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the cost. But am I going to stop using it because of that? Oh heck no!

This product (along with the Phyto shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, and pre-treatment oil) has increased the strength and length of my hair. One problem that I found with the relaxer is that because of the thickness of my hair I cannot divide the product in half in order to do a touch-up because, I find myself running out of the product in the middle of relaxing my hair or I do not get the result that I wanted. Using the whole product and just wasting the extra has worked for me. When I have strayed away from the Phyto line of products I found my hair breaking off more and lacking luster, even though I was using other high-end product lines. Also, even though this product is expensive, I believe that it is worth the price because of its natural ingredients and the way it makes my hair look and feel. Likewise, the product does not leave my hair flat and lifeless, I get plenty of body and this makes my hair look healthy and not over-processed. My hair just looks naturally straight and beautiful. There are times when I did relax my hair and I was not satisfied with the outcome because for whatever reason it did not take (not enough time spent smoothing, not left in long enough, etc.) but that did not deter me because I have gotten more fabulous results then not. In addition, like any product, they affect people differently and not everybody will have great results but I did. Phyto products work best for me and if I find a great product that consistently gives me my desired results I tend to stick with it.

I started using this about 4yrs ago when I started relaxing my own hair.(shoulder length 3a/b)My scalp is so sensitive that everything I tried burn before I could start the smoothing process.I even tried a well known "safe"easy to apply relaxer that I thought would be for me, it took two applications to get it straight.When I first tried Phytospecific it was only $42,but the cost didn't matter as long as I could do it myself and not worry about my hair falling out.When it went up to $60 I tried to relax less often but was happy.I use this about every 2 months and it leaves my hair soft and alot less frizzy,with other relaxers my hair would frizz up like a fro in humid conditions.
I'm writing my third review on this relaxer because I just can't believe the difference in my hair after trying a "cheap"drug store relaxer.The expense for me was getting out of hand so I took a chance on a popular no-lye relaxer and the results were awful.My hair was brittle,dry and flat.Well,guess what ,I'll sell my clothes or work a second job in order to keep buying this relaxer.I get so many compliments when using this,eveyone says my hair is beautiful and healthy looking.So if you're thinking about the price before you purchase this,just think about how much you'll love your hair if you do.

This is my very first time using this product but this relaxer is 100 times better that any relaxer that I have tried!!! Although I applied this product at home myself I would recommed for a hairdresser to apply the perm to get the best results possible. I found that the smoothing process is very very important with this perm and a profession is trained in relaxer application. I was able to smooth the back and the sides of my head but the majority of the mid section. When I was finished the relaxation process I found that the back and the sides of my hair came out very very straight except for the mid section that I did not concentrate on. Overall the relaxer works very well and you can only go wrong if you do not completely smooth out your entire hair. All the needed ingredience to beutiful hair in Phyto-Relaxer but its all in the way you smooth it. Therefore for touch up, I intend to take this phyotorelaxer to my hair-dresser to effectively smooth out my new-growth.

I used the Phyto 2 for the full amount of time just like the directions said and teh results were just okay. Not completely straight, but definitely shiny and soft. No damage. But now about four and a halfweeks later my hair is starting to get the natural curl back. But just less frizzy. I think I next time I will try something stronger.

When the price shot up to $60, I was quite upset. I decided to try Mizani for my touch-up and get a flat-iron. I did it a few times and was just so sad. I could see the difference between the two. If I had not had had Phyto, I would have been happy with the Mizani result. But it was just not the same. I had to come back. So here I am. I bought it again and used it and just, WOW! I know I am not supossed to do this (and don't try it on my recommendation) but I put the relaxer on TOP of the Mizani regrowth. I am so very happy. My hair looks and feels so much better. It has shine and that "wash-and-go" quality (My hair is naturally somewhat like Rachel True of TV's Half-and-half or the singer Kelis) and straight (but can still hold a curl). It is perfect. Love it. Can't go back.

Although I still use the Phytorelaxer the product has become a bit pricey over the years. Reviewer: cypresswoman2@aol.com (florida)ok, so i read all the reveiws and wished that i had been using this product 2 yrs ago when i dicided that i would never buy a doller store perm again. i was using Rusk perm and i was great because i really did not like the bone straight look but has i used it it seemed that my hair would break off alot and i was seeing hair in some places on my head that was really short. i'm not sure if it was the perm or maybe it was that bad hair coler that i used witch really messed up my hair. but still my hair was breaking off every wear my husband even would say my hair is every where in the house. the daily thing was to whip my split ends from my shouders every time i would fix my hair. so i waited my 90 days and switch to this product and it really suprized me that my hair looks as good the difference is that it's shinner, boucer, and it's only been 2 days but my hair is not bracking off as much. it's really alot of money for me to send and my other relaxer was cheaper but you get what you pay for. i used all of it this time but next time i'll use only use half and use the other half for my next time. so really i till spend the same. i am much happier with this product and now this is what i'll use. im waiting for summer to see how it holds up to the florida summers . i think it will do great

I was very nervous about relaxing my hair. Over the last 12 months, I've been growing out my last relaxer ($3 one from the local mega mart). My goal was truly "wash and wear" hair. I did three strand tests before I found the right time and application technique (minimum time, finger smoothing only). My hair was fuller than I’d ever seen it after processing. It dried bouncy and curly, but a little fuzzy. I used my favorite deep conditioner (ultra black hair) a few times and styled it with my favorite wash and wear products (curly hair solutions) and wow! It’s been a month and I still don’t believe it. No one guesses this is not my hair’s natural texture. Styling involves a couple products and some water. The first time my hair came out pretty well, the back was somewhat underprocessed but it was tolerable. but my hair was still very healthy so it was all ok. Last night, my aunt and i applied the relaxer to just the new growth and smoothed like crazy for 18 minutes exactly (quite a bit of time under my last time). My front came out great. My hair has so much added length now and i've barely seen any breakage. close to none as you can get. the back is a lot better than the first time. it's not completely straight, but it has a wave when wet, but i can always flat iron it cause it's so long now and still healthy. i'm kind of scared at all the length lol. my back is so hard to straighten i'm seeing. it's just very resistant, but i can over come it. anyhoo, i still recommend everyone to switch to phyto. having hair this healthy and this full of life is great.
Reviewer: shar42 (long island,ny)I had to write another review on this relaxer. I've been using this for about 2 1/2 years. Out of all the home relaxers I've tried nothing comes remotely close. I recommed this to anyone who relaxes their own hair. It's easy,doesn't burn and leaves my hair looking healthy. Through my experience I found that using half the mixture is better for touch ups than using the entire jar, even though half isn't quite enough for my whole head. If too much is applied,it comes out over-processed.
I also use the Phytolactum shampoo, Phytosesame conditioner and Phytomist leave-in conditioner and also Phytospecifc Intense Nutrition Mask. Excellent products!!
I also Have to add that Hairboutique is the best I found to order from. I've tried other sites who also carry Phyto but no one compares to the excellent, prompt service of Hairboutique!

I think that the product is not strong enough for my hair type. I just wanted to try this product because I read all the reviews but it just did not do the job. I am someone with really thick, #4 type hair, and I can't say enough about how great my hair is doing. I put in Phyto about a month ago, and my hair is still the desired texture I relaxed it to. I didn't want it super-straight, and love how wavy and soft my hair is--no breakage, no problems. I even put in some braids several weeks ago, and haven't experienced any problems at all. Today, I came online to buy some more Phyto products--shampoo, conditioner, and another box of the Index 2 relaxer for the next time I touch up my hair. I wouldn't even think about going to the local beauty supply and buying some cheap $3-$5 box of relaxers any more. Phyto is well worth the investment, and for Black women and how we love and desire to have healthy, strong, growing, shiny hair--it is worth every dime! Stop hesitating on Phyto and hook yourself up, okay.

I applied the Index 2 last night. Granted, the back is very underprocessed, but I didn't smooth it enough as I should have. I'll probably use the second half of the jar and do the back again in a few days. (Make sure you smooth all your hair without stopping. Just letting the relaxer sit does NOTHING) My hair came out super soft and pretty shiney. It looks like my hair grew in this way. It's pretty wavy/curly, but i could totally blowdry it straight really easily. It has wonderful texture and it's very flexible. It's also super strong. There's hardly been any breakage. I applied it and smoothed for 20 minutes total time. There was absolutely no burning at all. However, I did base most of my scalp with the corn oil that comes with the kit. There is no reason for other women to settle for anything less.

For starters, the subtle smell makes Phytospecific a pleasure to work with. As the relaxer is being applied and smoothed, you can really see it going to work. I have very coarse, hard to relax hair and this really does an amazing job. Today was my second touchup and the results just keep getting better. My hair is straight, it looks and feels healthy and it's got body and bounce I haven't seen in years. As the ultimate testimony, my husband who walks in from a long day at work looks at me and says "Wow, your hair looks great, honey!" The only recommendation I would make is for the company to make the measuring process for touchups a little easier. The directions stress how important exact proportions are, but trying to measure half of 7.60 fl oz of a creamy substance was a little tricky (plus, it seemed like less than that). But all in all I am a new found Phyto-fan! It's great to try a product that lives up to its promises.

Therefore, I have put up with hair that would frizz and curl every time it rains or after a workout. However, after reading the reviews on this product, I thought I would give it another shot. I had considered the Japanese thermal straightening but the cost of it is just ridiculous. Anyway, this is the best product i have ever used, my hair is shinier and softer than ever. No strong chemical smells, my hair is straight yet it still has body, it's not pin straight and flat. I just LOVE it!!! I just wish that I have discovered this product a long time ago.

I am 44 years old, white, of European Jewish heritage, and have "type 3B" hair. After living with the same layered curly look for the last 15 years, I have been trying to grow out my hair for the past year. I teach aerobics and sweat quite a bit, so I find that I have been mostly wearing my hair tied back. Styling my longer hair had become a huge chore, taking close to an hour at a time....and then all for nothing once it starts to rain or once I workout....argh....I had decided either to cut it off again, or try thermal reconditioning....but the expense of the latter was a big deterrent. I found out about this product by searching the internet, so I was a little scared. Well, all that I have read from these other reviews is true!!! The process took only about one hour. My husband helped to apply the product which he described as being like "speading cream cheese" . I experienced absolutely no discomfort to my scalp or skin during the relaxing step. The only part that I found tedious was the neutralizing phase, which required a very long shower with multiple reapplications of the foamy neutralizing shampoo. I immediately felt a difference when I was rinsing out the product; and I experienced no hair loss. When I came out of the shower, I could tell that the product had worked.....my hair was straight! When it was dry I couldn't believe how shiny it looked, and it still had nice body and a very soft wave (I didn't want it completely straight). The best thing is, when I go out in the rainy weather and after a sweaty intense workout, I do not look like I stuck my finger in an electric socket! I just brush it out and it looks great! I am already saving so much time. I feel like I gave myself a makeover. Since just one week has gone by, I am not sure when I will need to "touch up" the new growth, but I will definitely continue to use this wonderful product.

I liked my hair when I came from the hair dresser, but if I tried to do my hair myself, it would not look as good. I talked to my hair dresser and told her that I wanted hair that was totally straight without having to add heat to it. I told her that I wanted hair that would look as great when I did it as when I went to the beauty shop. I simply wanted straight hair that was easy to do. She told that if a relaxer got your my completely straight, it would damage the hair and make it lifeless. At that point, I decided to look for something else if relaxers couldn't do what I wanted. I grew my hair out without chemicals so that I could get "thermal reconditioning". I was going to get it, but when I reconsidered the fact that I would have to wait 3 months to get a touch up, I decided to look for other alternatives. I found the Phytorelaxer and I decided to try Index 2. My hair looks great. I do it myself. People are so surprised when I tell them that I do it myself. They tell me that I must have naturally straight hair. I tell them that I just use a great relaxer. People who cut my hair either believe that I truly have a great relaxer or they beleive that I have naturally straight and healthy hair. This is the best relaxer that I've seen and it's much less expensive than thermal reconditioning, even if you have a hair dresser apply it for you.

Reviewer: T. Hall (Wilmington, NC)This is by far the best relaxer I have ever used. After 2 years of wearing braids, I didn't want to think about trying a relaxer on my newly grown virgin hair. A type 4a/4b, frustrated with not being able to wear my hair natural without having to use heat to keep it manageable, I did tons and tons of research and came across this product. I was desperate for something, and after reading the product information and rave reviews, I decided to give it a try.
I nervously applied the relaxer (No. 2 strength) myself and I was shocked at how silky and healthy my hair was. I workout alot and sweat heavily, and the results are still the same! This product is incredibly true to it's claims, ladies. The only negative was not having quite enough relaxer from the 1 jar to relax my entire head; but that's not even noticeable!
The product is also tough to work through when smoothing, so I'll probably have a professional apply the next relaxer to my new growth. I just did my daughter's hair, and my husband says our hair looks the healthiest he's ever seen it. Many thanks to the creators of this great product. It's the best by far!!!
