Distinctive Features
Hair coloring, bleaching and perming techniques are used to make hair more beautiful.
While they are now more gentle and advanced in their formulation and application
methods, they sometimes leave hair dry and lackluster.
Causes
These techniques are based on chemical reactions that modify the hair structure. Perming
processes, for instance, work on the cystine bridges of keratin: hair is first made deformable
with a reducing agent, then a neutralizer is used to reestablish new cystine bridges.
Bleached hair is lightened by the partial or total oxidation of melanin, eliminating hair pigments. It may result in weakening the hair given that oxidation generally affects the cystine
bridges as well. Color treatments and bleaching are carried out with an alkaline pH level and, in spite of careful neutralization, remaining alkalinity persists in the hair. Hair scales remain
open leading to a loss of radiance and poor color fixation.
The PHYTO Solution
To help restore radiant hair, it is necessary to:
- Close up and smooth the hair scales using the acidity of citrus fruit
- Retexturize hair cuticles with amino acids derived from sweet almonds
- Soften and nourish hair with botanical butters (Shea butter)
Given that artificial pigments are more delicate than natural pigments, they will have to be
protected from oxidation with products containing UV sunscreens. |
