Essential Oils
Rare and infinitely valuable, essential oils are the purest part of the plant, a true concentrate of active ingredients which René Furterer has always used for its products.
Essential oils are fragrant, volatile substances secreted by the plants and stored in special secretion pouches found in different parts of the plant: leaves, flowers, stalks and roots. Their essential function is to protect the plant from external aggressions such as viruses, microbes and parasites.
The term "essence" dates back to the 16th century, when Paracelse worked on the extraction of the plant "soul" in the form of "quintessence" (fifth essence), later referred to as the "spirit", then essence and essential oil.
The term "oil" does not correspond to the chemical definition but rather to the fact that essences are soluble in oil and fat.
Extraction Process
Over 100kg of plants are often necessary to produce only a few grams of essential oil, the quintessence of the plant.
The activity of an essential oil depends on its quality, which varies depending on its origins (country, soil and climate) and its method of extraction. The latter must preserve the purity and the integrity of the plant. This is why, among various available extraction methods, René Furterer has chosen steam distillation.
This technique does not use organic solvents, which are likely to alter the natural properties of essential oils.
Plant Extracts
From the plant to active ingredients: There are more than 250,000 plant species on Earth! Scientists continue to learn about their properties and activities in very different areas. The botanical universe, explored for the sake of our health, is equally important for our beauty, and has visible beneficial actions.
René Furterer has consistently combined essential oils with plant extracts. Those used for the formulation of his hair care treatments are rigorously selected for their targeted actions. These plants naturally provide hair with the elements that contribute to its health and beauty.
Plant extracts are used in various forms, as extracts, oils, essence, pectin or butter derived from plants. |
